Key Stage 3 Live Online English Classes
The Crimes of Roald Dahl: Text Detectives
- A series of lessons focusing on reading skills.
- Children will develop comprehension and analysis skills and improve their understanding and ability to produce analytical writing, including essay writing.
- Children will read a selection of short stories by Roald Dahl, including The Wish, The Landlady, The Way Up To Heaven and Lamb to the Slaughter. Using these, they will develop their reading and essay writing skills.
- Children will develop their writing skills.
Writing for Magazines
- Children will learn about writing for different audiences and purposes within the form of magazine texts.
Creative Writing
- Children will be guided through the skill of creative writing. Lessons will focus on vocabulary and sentence structure for effect, whole-text structure and developing detailed, imaginative description.
- Children will develop their writing skills.
How to Eat a Novel
- Children will be guided through the skill of studying a novel.
- Children will develop reading skills and learn how to analyse a novel.
Shakespeare: gender and subversion in Shakespearian Comedies
- The genre of Comedy is introduced and explored through a selection of Shakespeare plays. Children will read, analyse and interpret Shakespeare’s language and use of conventions.
- Essay writing skills will be taught.
- A popular genre at GCSE, these group classes for home educated children make an effective introduction to the literature covered on some iGCSE and GCSE specifications.
Speeches to Change the World
- The form of speeches is studied. Children will read, analyse and write about well known speeches – and they will learn to write effective speeches themsleves.
Gothic Literature: analysis, introduction to essay writing and creative writing within the genre of gothic
- The genre of Gothic is introduced and explored through poetry. Children will read, analyse and interpret poetry and prose, while also refining their ability to write their own.
- A popular genre at GCSE, these group classes for home educated children make an effective introduction to the Gothic literature covered on some iGCSE specifications.
Newspapers: language and representation in the media
- A series of lessons looking at the conventions of the tabloid and broadsheet press. Children will explore the power of language in creating and informing popular opinion – and learn to use language influentially themselves.
